Croutons

Servings: Makes 4 cups
Comments:
Great to use in caesar salads or to top your soups with. If desired, add a little salt and pepper or garlic powder and sprinkle cubes with grated parmesean cheese then bake as directed.

Ingredients:
4 or more thick slices of home-style white bread
Salt and pepper, to taste (optional)
Garlic powder, to taste (optional)
Grated parmesean cheese, to taste (optional)

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F/180 degrees C. Remove the crusts from the bread and slice into 1/2-inch strips and then the strips into 1/2-inch cubes, to make 4 cups. Spread the cubes in a single layer on a cookie sheet and set in the oven for about 10 minutes, turning once or twice, until lightly toasted on all sides. Spread the cubes on a tray to cool before using (at this point, you may season with salt and pepper, garlic powder or parmesean cheese, if desired).

Use croutons in salads, or top your favorite soups with these tasty bites.

Storing:
Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Crotons may also be refrigerated for up to a month. You can also freeze extra croutons in a plastic bag; whenever you need them, just pour the croutons onto a baking sheet, and heat in a 325 degree F/160 degree C oven until they're become crisp again.

Makes 4 cups.
