Creamy Baked Grits

Comments: A southern tradition, grits make a wonderful "comfort" food and really hits the spot on a chilly autumn or winter morning. |
Ingredients: 2 cups milk 1/2 cup instant grits 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder 2 tbsp. butter 1 tsp. sugar 3 eggs, separated |
Instructions: In a medium saucepan scald the milk, then slowly stir in grits, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Stir in remaining ingredients in order given, including beaten egg yolks. In a separate bowl beat egg whites to soft-peak stage and fold into mixture. Pour into buttered 1-1/2 quart casserole dish. Bake in 350 degree F/180 degree C oven 30 minutes. Serve topped with butter and honey. Makes 4 to 6 servings. |
